What You'll Need to Get Started

Look, writing detective fiction doesn't require fancy equipment. But there are a few baseline things that'll make your learning experience smoother. And honestly, most people already have what they need.

We've designed our detective writing programme to be accessible. You don't need a powerful machine or expensive software. What matters more is having reliable access and a comfortable setup where you can focus on developing your craft.

Below, we've outlined the practical requirements for joining our autumn 2025 cohort. These aren't rigid rules—just realistic guidelines based on what's worked well for past participants.

Not Sure If Your Setup Works?

Seriously, just ask. We'd rather answer questions now than have you worry about it. Most concerns are easily resolved, and we can usually suggest workarounds if your current setup has limitations.
